St. Francis Women's Club
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
     The St. Francis Women's Club invites all women in the St. Francis parish to join at any time during the year. It was established to promote the spiritual growth of its members and to provide support to parish activities as requested. The club meets monthly, usually every third Thursday at 7pm in Father Greenan Hall. Dues are $10 annually. New officers are installed in June during the annual banquet.
     Officers for the 7/2002 through 6/2003 year include: Grace Whitaker, president (782-8115); Doris Murphy, vice president (782-3731); Carol Edwards, secretary (783-2713); and Denise Dumas, treasurer (789-1833).
     Club activities include sponsoring ecumenical luncheons and the receptions of First Communion, Confirmation, and RCIA. The Women's Club is also responsible for sewing and providing Baptismal bibs. It also supports a booth at the annual festival at Marina Park. In addition, members participate in serving on several club committees: Sunshine, Ways & Means, Hospitality, and Food Closet to name a few.
      And, did you know...that the St. Francis Women's Club was responsible for replacing the many tables in Helen Bouchard Hall and Fr. Greenan Hall? ...that the Women's Club has donated money to various charities throughout the years?   ...that once a month members of the Club visit the Scallop Shell Nursing Home to help celebrate Mass and sing with the patients?
     Every December, the St. Francis Women's Club promotes a Christmas bazaar. This year members of the Women's Club got together to make a quilt to be auctioned off:
Why not attend this months meeting to learn more about the Club? Members range in age from their mid-20's to their mid-80's, with some women belonging to the Club for over 30 years. Here are a few quotes on why they joined:
"It is truly an honor to be involved in a club such as ours. Everyone is so generous with her time and assets," ~Grace Whitaker
"I joined the SFWC to be able to give the parish community my gift of hard work and dedication." ~Carol Edwards
"A close friend of mine was in the Club when she approached me about joining. While I already knew a few of the members, since joining, I've met a lot more women; all of whom inspire me through their work for the church." Cynthia Yemma Faria
